Glamovie.com – Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are actively developing The Conjuring Universe after their first film, “The Conjuring” which was successful in 2013.
Following this success, the sequel to “The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist” also received a rousing welcome from film connoisseurs. Especially with the presence of the demon nun named Valak as a creepy antagonist.
Realizing that Valak received more attention from the audience, Warner Bros. and New Line were increasingly tempted to produce the latest spin-offs which specifically told the devil nun, namely “The Nun”. Of course, “The Nun” is the latest spin-off after the production house first released two “Annabelle” series.
Overall, The Conjuring Universe is able to bring a sense of horror that is so popular with movie lovers.
However, this franchise timeline is so confusing.
“The Conjuring” became the first film released by this franchise, followed by “Annabelle” in 2014.
After that, Warner Bros. released “Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist” in 2016. And most recently, the studio launched “Annabelle: Creation” in 2017.
Keep in mind, “Annabelle: Creation” actually became the film with the earliest settings among the released Conjuring Universe franchises. Then sequentially proceed with “Annabelle”, “The Conjuring”, and “Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist”.
Realizing that some fans felt confused about the timeline used in the film, director James Wan finally took the initiative to provide a more detailed explanation. James explained this timeline in the latest promo “The Nun” which was just released last August 24th.
This short video promo confirms that “The Nun” will be the beginning of the story of The Conjuring Universe. Together with director Corin Hardy, James said that “The Nun” will have the earliest setting in 1952.
“Annabelle: Creation” apparently took the setting shortly after, namely in 1955. Followed by “Annabelle” in 1970, namely the two films are still focusing on the figure of the demon doll Annabelle.
Next was “The Conjuring” which took place in 1971, and “Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist” set in 1977.
Both of these films became a “new era” that focused on the story of the couple Ed and Lorraine Warren.
From James’s account, it can be ascertained that the story of “The Nun” took time and place long before the incident in “Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist” which introduced the Valak figure to the audience. In addition, of course, this new spin-off will answer the puzzle about the emergence of Valak which has also been briefly mentioned in “Annabelle: Creation”.
Apart from that, “The Nun” will tell a pastor who has a dark past and a nun who follows the period of early education to pursue Catholicism. They were sent by the Vatican to investigate a young nun who died of mysterious suicide in Carta Monastery, Romania.
Both of them tried to uncover the secret which ultimately made them risk their lives.
In this film, the figure of Valak will be back by Bonnie Aarons. Whereas Demian Bichir served as Father Burke who was sent to investigate the demon nun.
The film also stars Taissa Farmiga, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Mute and many more.
“The Nun” was directed by director Corin Hardy. While James Wan, who was previously the director of the series “The Conjuring”, chose to fill the screenwriter position with Gary Dauberman. (Glamovie).
