Brutal Action for Champion of Justice Enforcement with Soft Behavior

There are innumerable action films that highlight action scenes that are full of fighting, even sadistic actions. There are also more which show the human side of the protagonist. But The Equalizer 2 displays a combination of these two elements in balance.

The Equalizer 2, which is a sequel to the film’s predecessor which was released four years ago, again shows the action of Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a former government secret agent who is suspected of having been killed for a long time, and is now starting a new life.

Different from his first film, in The Equalizer 2 Robert McCall now has a more “contemporary” job, namely an online taxi driver.

On the surface, he was indeed seen as an ordinary driver. But behind this guise, McCall turned out to be a vigilante, a hero who upheld justice for the weak, in his own way.

In The Equalizer 2, Robert McCall actually begins to find the rhythm of his own life (although he still cannot escape the shadow of his wife who has passed away). But this peace was torn after his only friend who was also an FBI agent, Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo), was killed while on duty.

There was no compromise, Robert McCall tried to demand revenge for his best friend’s death. McCall finally re-opened his mask to his former colleague, Dave York (Pedro Pascal). He asked the help of this friend to gather information about Susan’s death. But he actually revealed more surprising things.

Humane Elements

Like its first film, The Equalizer 2 again has a number of branches that show the relationship between Robert McCall and a number of other characters. There is an old man who lost his brother, a woman who was a victim of sexual violence, a book shopkeeper and his child, to his kind Muslim neighbors.

These characters actually have no major influence on the way the main plot, except for one, namely Miles Whittaker (Ashton Sanders). Even so, these characters still have an important role to play in the entire film, which is to give the human element to Robert McCall’s character.

Brutal and Exciting
Not only that, this character also gives a justification for the brutal actions taken by Robert McCall to his opponents. The audience will feel satisfied seeing the antagonists in this film lying in blood or with broken bones.

Yes, the element of action in this film is quite sadistic. Various action scenes went with great excitement. Both close combat that emphasizes physical fights and battles that rely on strategy.

Indeed, there are some things that seem rather absurd in this film. It’s like the matter of Robert McCall’s work which makes it easy to track after the action.

However, this is actually not very crucial in the film as a whole. The Equalizer 2 remains an exciting spectacle: adrenaline pumping as well as contributing to the story of this soft-hearted hero. (Glamovie- The Equalizer 2 Review Cast).
